The TDI years to avoid are 2005, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012. Some common problems include- oil leak, injector failure, timing belt failure, clogging of EGR valve etc. Reading this article, you will find out which years have the worst problems. You will also be able to pick the best TDI engines based on non-problematic model years.
Everything you need to know about VW timing belt replacement on 1.9 liter TDI engine with ALH engine code; which was used in the following Volkswagen models: 1999-2004 VW Jetta (US) A4 chassis. 1999-2004 VW Golf (US) A4 chassis. 1998-2004 VW Beetle (US) A4 chassis. Note: There are two different engine codes in 2004. ALH and the BEW.
AAZ's are not tdi's, and aaz engined cars would normally be badged TD. Golf CL's and GL's mainly, but GL's switched to tdi's a lot earlier. Same goes for Passats. As a contradiction to that there are a few Golfs and Passat circa 94 that are badged tdi, BUt still have an AAZ and are infact TD's. Bit of a changeover glitch?
It had a bore (cylinder width) of 3.16 inches and a stroke (piston travel inside the cylinder) of 3.76-inches. The engine had a total displacement of 1,896 cubic centimeters (cc). It had a 19-to-1 compression ratio and eight valves per cylinder. It was an overhead valve (OHV), four-cylinder diesel engine. Volkswagen placed its 1.9-liter
Thanks for all the advice. Since I have replaced the N75 valve, I am no longer getting the N75 code. I still have the same condition, but now I get code (VAG COM Translation): 17965 Charge Pressure Control Positive Deviation. P1557-35-10 Intermittent. As per other input, I will replace the vacuum lines, check my VNT linkage and my grounds tomorrow.

PQIFRFp. Diesel engine oil is very sooty. So, a bit of a sad story really. The CR engines might be alright, but the DPF and its control have in my view now wrecked the job. For sensible money, a Euro III PD 1.9 is the best of the bunch - the 130 PS unit being the nicest to use with an outstanding light-foot fuel consumption.
I've just had a 1.9 tdi (code 1Z )fitted to my t25 van . Could anybody tell me where the engine number is located so i can register the change of engine. Thanks for any replies . Bryan
None of your 1.6 pump parts will be useful for running the engine. I can go into details but suffice to say it would be best to sell off any 1.6 pumps to help fund an actual properly built mTDI injection pump from a reputable builder (prothe isn't one). I also have a stock electronic TDI Jetta and have worked on several others.
Denmark. TDI. 1,9 PD 101. Apr 4, 2014. #17. Just a short follow up. The car hasn´t died since my last post (hurrah), but the car still suffers from the occasional hard start, which is easily cured by applying the accelerator pedal just a little, and keeping it around 1300-1400 rpm for the first couple of seconds.
Dec 4, 2007. #3. There are dozens of threads on here concerning high-mileage VW TDI's. Mine is going strong with no major parts replaced (including the clutch, turbo, injection pump) at 338,000+ miles. Many more here with even more miles. How long it (and the rest of the car) will last depends on how you drive it, and what kind of driving you
